Zalgiris Kaunas is on the verge of bringing back a major name in Lithuanian basketball, as 31-year-old guard Marius Grigonis is set to leave Panathinaikos AKTOR after four seasons.

Following a 2024/25 campaign in which he managed just six appearances due to injury, Grigonis has been used sparingly this season by Ergin Ataman in the EuroLeague, averaging only five minutes per game. His role was different in the Greek domestic league, where the guard posted 10.1 points and 2.6 assists in 23 minutes across eight appearances.

The same grey area also involves Saliou Niang, a Virtus Bologna product headed to LSU, along with other European names mentioned by Sports Illustrated, including Marcio Santos, also expected at LSU, and Mantas Rubštavičius, bound for Auburn.
According to Sports Illustrated, the NCAA distributed new pre-enrollment eligibility guidance on May 8, with a specific focus on international players who have already been involved with professional clubs. In other words, the NCAA appears ready to change the rules of engagement while the game is already underway.
The issue is not the reported $4.5 million package currently on the table from St. John’s for Quinn Ellis through NIL and revenue share, nor the seven-figure deals linked to other major arrivals from Europe. According to Tomer Givati of Israel Hayom, big man James Wiseman has been offered to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The former No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft is coming off two injury-plagued seasons with the Indiana Pacers.
After returning to the court in March with Team USA for two Americas World Cup Qualifiers games, Wiseman is reportedly considering a move to Europe in order to play more consistently.
For now, the Israeli club is said to be evaluating his profile.
Clearly, it would be a move with both significant upside and considerable risk. Wiseman has at times failed to impress because of the attitude he displayed on the court, but he remains a 25-year-old player with physical and athletic tools that would be extraordinary by European basketball standards.
