Incoming Los Angeles Lakers owners Bob Iger and Josh Kushner have no immediate plans to change the franchise’s leadership structure. Following their record-breaking $12.5 billion purchase of the team, Iger confirmed that Jeanie Buss will remain the Lakers’ governor, honoring the agreement reached when Mark Walter acquired the franchise from the Buss family.

Under Walter’s original $10 billion purchase agreement, Buss was guaranteed to remain governor of the Lakers for at least five years.

“We have enormous respect and appreciation for Jeanie, her father and everything they’ve contributed to this franchise,” Iger said. “We fully intend to honor the agreement made between Mark and Jeanie. If things change down the road, they’ll change, but we’re entering this partnership with tremendous respect for who she is and what she represents to the organization.”

Iger revealed that he and Josh Kushner completed the acquisition of Walter’s majority stake in just three business days after learning the team could become available. At the time, the pair had been pursuing ownership opportunities connected to the NBA’s planned Las Vegas expansion franchise.

The former Disney CEO also said he has already spoken with Jeanie Buss and new head coach JJ Redick, although he has not yet had the opportunity to speak with Lakers superstar Luka Dončić.

According to Iger, the ownership group has not yet established a long-term plan for the franchise, noting that the transaction came together quickly and that discussions about the team’s future are only just beginning.

Bradley Beal is attracting interest from multiple NBA teams as he prepares for a return to action next season. According to Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Clippers are considering bringing the veteran guard back after his brief stint with the team was cut short by season-ending hip surgery.

The Miami Heat have also emerged as a potential destination, setting up a possible race for the three-time All-Star’s signature.

Before injuries sidelined him, Beal averaged 17.0 points and 3.7 assists per game with the Phoenix Suns during the 2024-25 campaign, showing he can still provide valuable scoring and experience.

Following LeBron James’ departure, Doncic has become the centerpiece of the Lakers’ long-term project. Acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in February 2025, the Slovenian guard later signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension to remain in Los Angeles.

Lakers legend Magic Johnson also praised the ownership transition, expressing confidence that Kushner and Iger can help return the franchise to championship contention.

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly among several teams involved in sign-and-trade discussions for Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson.

One of the main obstacles in negotiations appears to be Milwaukee’s reluctance to include a first-round pick in a potential deal. Denver is believed to be looking for a return built around first-round draft capital, young players or a combination of both.

If the Bucks remain unwilling to surrender a first-rounder, they could instead be forced to include players from their current rotation to make a deal possible.

One name that could potentially attract Denver’s interest is Jaime Jaquez, who joined Milwaukee earlier this summer as part of the trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo away from the Bucks.

Milwaukee is not the only team monitoring Watson’s situation. The Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers and LA Clippers have also been linked to the forward.

A return to Denver remains another possibility, with the Nuggets reportedly still considering re-signing Watson rather than completing a sign-and-trade.

Davis played 20 games with the Mavericks last season and appeared in 51 contests between Dallas and the Lakers during the 2024-25 campaign. The 4-time All-NBA has yet to make his debut with the Wizards.

For Davis, this marks his first experience with an Eastern Conference team after spending 14 seasons in the Western Conference.

Dillon Brooks and the Phoenix Suns will continue their partnership. According to Shams Charania, the Canadian forward has agreed to a three-year, $73 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2029-30 season.

Arriving in Phoenix to bring more physicality and toughness to the roster, Brooks quickly became one of the key figures in the Suns’ new identity. His defensive intensity, ability to guard top perimeter players and competitive mentality have perfectly matched the “hard-nosed” culture built by new head coach Jordan Ott.

The former Grizzlies and Rockets forward is therefore confirmed as a crucial piece of Phoenix’s long-term plans, with the organization choosing to secure one of its most important players with a significant guaranteed contract.

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to a deal with Andre Jackson Jr., according to HoopsHype. Jackson will have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot with the Canadian franchise.

Jackson Jr. spent the past three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. His next stop will now be Toronto, where he will try to earn a role during camp and convince the Raptors’ coaching staff.

For Toronto, this is a move aimed at adding competition and depth to the roster, with Jackson Jr. set to fight for a place in the group ahead of the upcoming NBA season.

After winning an NBA championship last season as a Two-Way player with the New York Knicks, Trey Jemison will continue his career in Canada.

According to Chris Haynes, the big man has agreed to a Two-Way contract with the Toronto Raptors.

Jemison appeared in 13 NBA games for the Knicks, averaging 1.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game.

He also played 31 G League games, posting averages of 8.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 2.5 assists in 27.7 minutes per contest.

Nikola Jokic could sign the richest contract in NBA history next offseason. According to ESPN salary-cap expert Bobby Marks, the Denver Nuggets center could land a five-year, $359.5 million deal if he enters free agency.

Jokic is under contract for the next two seasons, with a player option for 2027-28. He has been eligible to sign a four-year, $278 million max extension since June 14, but if he declines to sign it, he could turn down his player option and hit the market for an even bigger deal.

A contract of that size would push Jokic’s career on-court earnings to $724 million. The three-time MVP, selected No. 41 in the 2014 NBA Draft, led Denver to its first NBA title in 2023 and is coming off a season in which he averaged 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.

Tyrese Maxey could put himself in position for one of the largest contracts in NBA history. According to ESPN salary-cap expert Bobby Marks, the Philadelphia 76ers star could eventually become eligible for a five-year extension worth approximately $389 million.

Maxey earned All-NBA honors in 2026, but he was not able to sign a supermax extension this offseason because he was one year short of the required seven seasons of NBA service. Another All-NBA selection, or an MVP or Defensive Player of the Year award during the 2026-27 season, would make him eligible in 2027 for a four-year, $301 million extension.

The bigger scenario could come in 2028: if Maxey earns All-NBA recognition in two of three seasons, he could automatically qualify for a five-year, $389 million deal. After Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the 76ers guard could become one of the next NBA supermax faces.

The Portland Trail Blazers are reportedly not looking to sign DeMar DeRozan. According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the franchise is not pursuing the former Sacramento Kings veteran, who became an unrestricted free agent after being waived.

Stein also reports that Portland is not planning to buy out Jrue Holiday. The Blazers are looking to keep the veteran guard on the roster even after acquiring Ja Morant via trade.

It had already been reported in May that Holiday hoped to remain in Portland for the following season. The latest update points in the same direction for the franchise as well: no immediate exit, and a desire to keep Holiday as part of the group.

The Sacramento Kings reportedly have no interest in a buyout with Zach LaVine at this time. According to James Ham of Locked On Kings, despite speculation about the veteran guard’s fit on a rebuilding team, neither the franchise nor the player is currently pursuing that route.

LaVine is entering the final season of his contract at $48.9 million. A buyout could have allowed Sacramento to reduce that figure while giving the guard a chance to join a contender, but both sides are reportedly aligned in not wanting to move forward that way.

The Kings remain willing to work with LaVine on finding a new team via trade, as they have throughout the offseason. For now, however, the expectation is that LaVine will open the season in Sacramento, with any buyout scenario more likely to be revisited only after the trade deadline.

The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a one-year deal with Caleb Houstan. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the player will compete for the final available roster spot with the franchise.

Houstan is coming off a season with the Atlanta Hawks in which he shot 52.4 percent from three-point range. His perimeter shooting will be his main calling card as he tries to earn a place on New Orleans’ final roster.

Houstan will also reunite with Jamahl Mosley, his former coach with the Orlando Magic and now part of the Pelicans’ staff. The one-year deal gives him a chance to fight for another NBA opportunity during preseason.
