Klay Thompson’s tenure with the Dallas Mavericks is coming to an end after just one season.
The Texas franchise has announced its separation from the four-time NBA champion. The two sides have agreed to a buyout, requested by Thompson after he recently made it clear that he wanted to play for a contender.
According to Shams Charania, Thompson is expected to sign with the Miami Heat after clearing waivers. Miami had been waiting for two months to add him to its group of shooters surrounding the duo of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.
Thompson joined Dallas in the summer of 2025 after 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors.
The Mavericks paid tribute to Thompson following the announcement, calling him “one of the greatest to ever do it” and thanking him for his time in Dallas.
One of the greatest to ever do it. Champion, leader and a true pro.
