Klay Thompson plans to sign a two-year, nearly $13 million contract with the Miami Heat after clearing waivers following his buyout with the Dallas Mavericks. The deal includes a player option for the second season.
The 36-year-old reportedly requested his release from Dallas to compete for a championship, walking away from the final year of his $17.5 million contract. Thompson averaged 12.9 points while shooting 38.7% from three over two seasons with the Mavericks.
Fourth on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers list with 2,899, Thompson will add shooting and championship experience to a Miami roster built around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.
