The Golden State Warriors are signing veteran power forward Georges Niang to a one-year, $3.9 million contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The deal completes Golden State’s 15-man roster heading into the upcoming season.
Niang returns after missing last season
Niang missed the entire 2025-26 season after suffering a fracture in his left foot in September.
Before the injury, the veteran had established himself as a durable floor spacer, appearing in at least 72 games in each of the previous five seasons: 72, 76, 78, 82 and 79 games.
Niang has shot 39.9% from three-point range for his career, doing so on significant volume.
Niang’s expected role with Golden State
Niang is expected to provide a reserve frontcourt option behind Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and rookie Yaxel Lendeborg.
The 32-year-old also has a previous connection to the franchise. He joined the Warriors for training camp in 2017 and later played for their G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Brandon Williams also joins the Warriors
Earlier on Tuesday, Golden State agreed to a one-year minimum contract with reserve guard Brandon Williams.
Niang and Williams represent the Warriors’ first two external free-agent signings of the summer, with Golden State otherwise maintaining a largely stable roster.
Stephen Curry extension next
The Warriors’ next major piece of business will involve Stephen Curry.
The superstar guard becomes eligible for a contract extension on Saturday, with both Curry and Golden State reportedly sharing a desire to keep him with the franchise for the remainder of his career.
