The Spanish government honored Sergio Scariolo with the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit, the highest national distinction in sports

The Spanish government honored Sergio Scariolo with the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit, the highest national distinction in sports, for his accomplishments with the national team.

Leading Spain from 2009 to 2012 and 2015 to 2025, the Italian coach collected eight medals, highlighted by the 2019 FIBA World Cup gold and four EuroBasket titles. He now returns to the bench of Real Madrid.

At 64, Scariolo brings vast experience with stints at Tau, Unicaja and Madrid, plus two ACB and two Copa del Rey trophies. In 2019 he was also crowned NBA champion as assistant with the Toronto Raptors.
