Markus Howard is close to leaving Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and could continue his career with Zenit St. Petersburg. According to BasketNews, the Russian club is currently leading the race to sign the American guard, who is already in advanced talks with the team. The potential move would also see him reunite with Dusko Ivanovic, his coach at Zenit.
Howard’s departure from Vitoria appears to be linked to his reduced role in the early stages of the 2026-27 EuroLeague season. The 27-year-old played in Baskonia’s first three EuroLeague games, averaging just 4.7 points in 10 minutes per contest. This represents a significant drop from his averages of 10.4 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 rebounds in 21 minutes per game last season, and 19.5 points and 1.6 assists in 23 minutes per game during the 2023-24 campaign. He was subsequently left out of the squad for the game against Besiktas due to a coaching decision.
