Celtics acquire Mike Muscala from Thunder

The final day of the NBA Market negotiations begins with a trade between the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Celtics take big man Mike Muscala, sending Justin Jackson and two future second-round picks to OKC in return.

Muscala leaves the Thunder after four seasons (7 points and 3 rebounds per game, shooting 39% from long range).

 

Lakers acquire D’Angelo Russell, send Westbrook to Jazz

D’Angelo Russell is back in Los Angeles while Russell Westbrook is leaving the Lakers to join the Utah Jazz.

Per ESPN, The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz and reacquire point guard D’Angelo Russell from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a three-team, eight-player trade, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

The Lakers also get Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt in the trade, while the Timberwolves will receive guards Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker and picks.

In addition to Westbrook, the Jazz will receive Juan Toscano-Anderson, Damian Jones and a 2027 Lakers first-round pick that is top-four protected, sources said. If the Lakers’ pick to the Jazz is not conveyed in 2027 — if it falls into the top four — the pick immediately converts to a 2027 second-round pick, sources told ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

Raptors acquiring Jakob Poeltl

The Toronto Raptors are acquiring San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl in exchange for Khem Birch, a protected 2024 first-round draft pick and two future second-round picks, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

In Poeltl, the Raptors are bringing back the center they drafted, developed and traded for Kawhi Leonard with an intention of signing him to a new contract this summer, sources told Wojnarowski.

Phoenix Suns acquire Kevin Durant in blockbuster trade

The Phoenix Suns have acquired Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets in a blockbuster trade.

Per ESPN, Phoenix is sending Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four first-round picks and a 2028 pick swap to Brooklyn, according to sources. The picks, in 2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029, are unprotected.

The Suns are also getting forward T.J. Warren in the trade, sources said.

Durant wanted the move and new Suns majority owner Mat Ishbia pushed to get a deal done ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

Lakers, Jazz and Timberwolves discussing a three-way trade

The Lakers, Jazz and Timberwolves are in discussions on a three-team deal that would send D’Angelo Russell to the Lakers, Russell Westbrook and draft compensation such as a first-round pick to Utah and Mike Conley Jr. to Minnesota, sources tell Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic

Ongoing discussions have included Utah’s Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt as part of the potential three-team deal to the Lakers, sources said. Sides are working through pick protections and additional draft compensation too, per sources.

Heat trade Dewayne Dedmon to Spurs

While waiting for the usual fireworks of the last 24 hours, the Miami Heat have reached an agreement with the San Antonio Spurs on a minor trade.

Big man Dewayne Dedmon goes to the Texan team for a 2028 second-round pick.

With this deal, the Heat drop about 5 million from the Luxury Tax threshold, and free up another roster spot, useful for both eventual trades and the buyout market.

The Spurs, who are still under the salary floor, gain a future asset.

In all likelihood Dedmon will be released, as his contract for next season is not guaranteed.

The Phoenix Suns are prepared to pursue Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant should he become available as reported by Chris Haynes.

Kevin Durant signed a 4 year / $194,219,320 contract with the Brooklyn Nets, including $189,078,320 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $48,554,830.

Clippers reportedly interested in D’Angelo Russell, Christian Wood

The Los Angeles Clippers seem determined to strike a big deal before next Thursday’s trade deadline.

According to Marc Stein, the front office is also reportedly considering Dallas Mavericks big man Christian Wood and Minnesota Timberwolves pointguard D’Angelo Russell.

Both players will be free agents at the end of the season.

The Clippers have several players with useful contracts for a trade, plus the 2028  first-round pick and 6 second-round picks.

Clippers interested in Kyrie Irving

The Los Angeles Clippers are interested in Kyrie Irving who requested trade from Nets this week.

Per ESPN, the LA Clippers have joined the pursuit of Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns — among others — have been engaging with the Nets since Irving’s trade demand Friday, sources said. And now the Clippers — who’ve been in the trade market for a point guard — are probing a possible deal too, sources said.

Irving has not given the Nets a list of preferred destinations, but there’s strong mutual interest between him and the Lakers that goes back to the summer.

Warriors’ Stephen Curry leaves game with knee injury

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry left the game against the Dallas Mavericks with knee injury.

Per ESPN, Curry immediately received an X-ray, which came back negative, the team announced. He will get an MRI next.

Curry sustained the injury with 2:01 left in the third quarter after his left knee collided with Dallas’ McKinley Wright IV’s knee while Curry was defending him.

The Mavericks called a timeout, and Curry immediately limped to the bench where he was met by two team trainers. They examined him throughout the timeout, and as players returned to the court to resume play, Curry limped back to the locker room.

Mavs reportedly interested in Hawks’ Bogdan Bogdanovic and Pistons’ Bojan Bogdanovic

According to Vincent Goodwill, Serbian guard Bogdan Bogdanovic and Croatian forward Bojan Bogdanovic are two of the Dallas Mavs’ targets.

The Yahoo Sports reporter describes the Mavs as ‘desperate and determined’ to find a player who can ease the huge volume of responsibility on Luka Doncic’s shoulders.

Bogdan Bogdanovic has a two-year contract (player option in the last one) worth 36 million with the Hawks, while Bojan Bogdanovic in late October signed a two-year extension worth about 39.1 million with the Pistons.

According to the latest rumors, Detroit would like to keep the experienced Croatian forward, who is enjoying the best NBA season of his career.

Atlanta reportedly decrease asking price for John Collins

The Atlanta Hawks have significantly decreased their asking price on a trade of John Collins. Sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic that they’ve dropped their mandate for a first round pick and are instead focused on landing a quality player, or players, in return for Collins.

The Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets are known to be among the teams interested in Collins.

Nick Nurse has an uncertain future as head coach of the Toronto Raptors as he will be entering the final season of his current contract this offseason. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that some of the frustration with Toronto’s play has been directed at Nurse, whose $8m/year contract is set to expire after 2023-24 season.

Minnesota reportedly interested in Bones Hyland

The Denver Nuggets are reportedly receiving interest from the Minnesota Timberwolves on second-year guard Bones Hyland, as reported by Shams Charania.

Mike Singer of the Denver Post reports that the Nuggets aim to acquire a first-round pick in a trade for Hyland.

Indiana Pacers, Myles Turner agree to 2-year contract extension

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Indiana Pacers and Myles Turner have agreed to a rich contract extension.

Thanks to the salary space still available, under the new contract the Pacers will give Turner over 17 million extra for this season (renegotiation and extension), then 20.9 in 2023/24 and 19.9 in 2024/25.

Essentially, the center has added $58 million and two seasons to his previous deal.

Turner is producing 17.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.

Blazers offer 4-year, $112M extension to Jerami Grant

The Portland Trail Blazers have offered Jerami Grant a four-year, $112 million extension, sources tell Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Grant has not accepted the offer as the Blazers can sign offer a five-year contract worth more money when he becomes a free agent. Former Pistons forward, who is interested in signing long-term with Portland, could sign for up to $233 million over five years.

Kyrie Irving interested in discussing contract extension with Nets

Kyrie Irving is interested in signing a contract extension with the Nets but as of now there are no discussions ongoing.

Per Bleacher Report,  Irving is in the final season of his current deal and would become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if an extension isn’t reached.

“Around Kyrie and staying with the Nets? I have reached out to the Nets regarding this,” his agent Shetellia Irving told Bleacher Report. “We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets’ court to communicate now if their desire is the same.”

Irving is eligible for a max extension of four years and roughly $200 million.

At least one NBA team has offered the Toronto Raptors three first-round picks for OG Anunoby, sources told Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star. The Raptors have reportedly made it known that it would take multiple unprotected first-round picks for them to think about trading Anunoby.

Gary Trent Jr. is the only player the team is seriously considering trading at the deadline, according to other reports.

Nets star Durant making progress in injury recovery

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is making progress in his recovery from MCL sprain as planned and will be re-evaluated again in two weeks, sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

There is optimism that Kevin Durant will return to action for Nets ahead of the All-Star break, and play in the All-Star Game, Charania added.
