Pablo Laso reflects on Baskonia exit, open to Spain NT role

The veteran coach looks back on his recent club experiences and addresses national team speculation

Pablo Laso, one of Europe’s most respected coaches, shared his thoughts with Gigantes about his recent departure from Baskonia and his possible future with the Spanish national team. “I returned to Vitoria with great enthusiasm, but things didn’t go as planned,” he admitted.

After leaving Real Madrid, Laso led Bayern Munich to a league and cup double before joining Baskonia for the 2024–25 season. “They told me in July I wouldn’t continue, and I was sad. I believed in the project,” said Laso, who exited after club talks with other coaches emerged.

On succeeding Sergio Scariolo after EuroBasket 2025, Laso said, “Being considered for the national team is a reward for my career. I’m proud.” Spain will face Italy, Greece, Georgia, Bosnia and Cyprus in Group C of the tournament.
