Olimpia got a lot of help from the bench on its way to a big 77-64 win over Panathinaikos

Olimpia Milano wins the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament

Olimpia got the job done in Athens, edging Panathinaikos 77-64 in the championship game that ended the Giannakopoulos Tournament. It’s been a very good game because Olimpia was missing several players, Pangos, Shields, Tonut, Datome and Voigtmann, but used the entire roster to keep minutes, energy, foul, everything under control. In the first half, Tommaso Baldasso came off the bench to score 10 points in a hurry. Olimpia took a lead that basically never relinquished. Paul Biligha and also Pippo Ricci gave some quality minutes. In the second half, Brandon Davies took over. After dealing with foul troubles in the early part of the game, Davies attacked the opponents’ size with his quickness and skills. In the entire second half, he scored 16 points to finish with a game-high 20 points. He went 10 for 10 from the line. Olimpia also used the efficiency of its defense, especially in the second quarter and then in the fourth when Panathinaikos was held to 11 points scored. The preseason is now over with a 6-1 record overall. The next game will be on Wednesday night in Brescia, a semifinale game for the Italian Supercup, vs Virtus Bologna.
