Official: Saint-Quentin Remain in Betclic ÉLITE, Fos Provence Promoted to ELITE 2

LNB officially confirms Saint-Quentin in Betclic ÉLITE for 2026-27, while Fos Provence are promoted to ELITE 2. One Nationale 1 spot remains vacant.

It is now official: Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball will remain in Betclic ÉLITE for the 2026-27 season, while Fos Provence Basket have been promoted to ELITE 2. The Ligue Nationale de Basket’s Executive Committee approved the participation of both clubs in their respective competitions on Monday, August 31.

Saint-Quentin Officially Remain in Betclic ÉLITE

Saint-Quentin can now definitively prepare for another season in France’s top division. The club, which was relegated on the court last spring, have officially been retained in Betclic ÉLITE following the CNOSF’s decision regarding AS Monaco.

The LNB Executive Committee has now formally confirmed Saint-Quentin’s administrative survival, bringing the uncertainty surrounding the 2026-27 Betclic ÉLITE lineup to an end.

Fos Provence Promoted to ELITE 2

Saint-Quentin’s return to the top division has had a direct impact on the composition of France’s second tier. Fos Provence Basket, initially relegated to Nationale 1, have officially been promoted to ELITE 2.

The Bouches-du-Rhône club benefited from several teams ahead of them declining the opportunity to take the available spot, including Challans, who had been in position to remain in ELITE 2 but turned down the possibility.

After dropping to Nationale 1 in 2025, the BYers will therefore return to the LNB’s second division.

One Nationale 1 Spot Remains Vacant

Fos Provence’s promotion creates another vacancy, this time in Nationale 1. No decision has yet been announced regarding which club will fill the remaining spot.

The timing makes the situation particularly complicated, with the Nationale 2 season scheduled to begin on September 5. Promoting an NM2 team, with Cergy-Pontoise previously identified as the leading candidate, would require a very late restructuring of the competition.

Another possible scenario involves AS Monaco’s association first team, although that possibility depends on the future of Monaco’s professional structure and a potential move to another competition, such as the Adriatic League.

For now, the final Nationale 1 spot remains vacant, with the Federal Bureau expected to make a decision to avoid a season featuring one group with 14 teams and another with 13.
