The NBA is set to discuss a potential expansion of the league. According to ESPN, the Board of Governors meetings scheduled for March 24-25 will include a vote to explore the addition of two new franchises, specifically in Las Vegas and Seattle.
The league is targeting the 2028-29 season for the debut of the new teams, which would bring the total number of franchises to 32. This initial vote would allow the NBA to begin exploring purchase processes, with industry executives projecting bids in the range of $7 to $10 billion for each team.
A final vote could then take place later in the year to officially approve the expansion. In both voting rounds, at least 23 of the league’s 30 governors must vote in favor for the process to move forward.
