German basketball is ready to add a major name to its federation leadership. According to BILD, Mithat Demirel will become the new DBB vice president for elite performance, replacing Armin Andres.
Demirel confirmed the talks: “We had very good conversations in recent weeks. It would be a great honor for me to support the federation”. His role would include both the senior national teams and DBB youth programs.
As a player, Demirel won five German league titles and four German Cups with Alba Berlin. With Germany, he claimed bronze at the 2002 World Cup and silver at EuroBasket 2005 alongside his longtime friend Dirk Nowitzki.
