The match

Although Bayern quickly found themselves ten points down, they stayed within touching distance, while their defense was giving up too much: 26-30 in the 13th minute. Three-pointers from Lucic, Beauchamp and Norris then immediately turned the game around, putting Bayern ahead 37-32 in the 16th minute. Despite committing ten turnovers, the Munich side had fought their way back into the game by halftime.

After the restart, however, further turnovers were largely responsible for ASVEL turning a 45-38 deficit into a 56-45 lead — an 18-0 run that made Gavel’s second quick timeout of the game necessary in the 25th minute. Up to that point, ASVEL’s defense had been working with significantly greater physicality.

Some curious calls further motivated the Munich side, while Lucic and Jessup led the comeback. Two three-pointers from top scorer Norris, who finished with 14 points, put Bayern ahead 69-67 in the 35th minute, completing the comeback.

The defense closed out the game with intensity, while the 39-27 rebounding advantage also demonstrated the team’s character.
