LeBron James made it clear at All-Star weekend he hasn’t decided what comes next beyond this season — whether he stays, leaves, or retires. If he chooses to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers, the franchise would welcome that outcome.
Per the report, GM Rob Pelinka is prepared for a re-signing scenario this summer. The Lakers also avoided taking on long-term money at the trade deadline to keep options open.
That approach preserves flexibility to chase free agents either this offseason or in summer 2027 if James re-signs in July. The decision is still LeBron’s — but the message from L.A. is simple: the door is open.
