The Sacramento Kings are under the spotlight after the closing minutes of their loss to the Golden State Warriors, with the NBA reviewing the play. According to ESPN sources, coach Doug Christie’s decision to foul Seth Curry with 3:15 left was not a tanking move, but a tactical error.
Sources said Christie wanted to use a timeout before losing it once the clock went below three minutes, but misread Golden State’s bonus situation. That sent Curry, an 86.4% career free-throw shooter, to the line in a crucial possession and later fueled Draymond Green’s public criticism about tanking in the NBA.
Despite Sacramento’s injury-hit roster and its draft position, team sources insisted that coaches and players were trying to win the game. Christie had already made his stance clear after a recent victory, saying: “Tanking is the last thing [I’d do]. I respect the game too much”.
