Jonathan Kuminga has formally requested a trade away from the Golden State Warriors, per ESPN sources.
January 15 is the first day he’s eligible to be dealt, with the deadline set for February 5.
The request follows a steady deterioration: Kuminga opened the season as a starter for the first 12 games, then was demoted.
He hasn’t played in the last 13 games, buried at the bottom of Steve Kerr’s rotation.
Tension spiked again when he ruled himself out with back soreness an hour before the Jan. 2 game vs OKC.
Kerr had said he planned to use him with starters resting, but the situation stayed inactive.
Contract talks in the summer were already contentious, ending with a two-year, $46.8M deal and a team option in Year 2.
Golden State has canvassed the market (Kings and Mavericks among interested teams) while prioritizing expiring money in return.
