Karl-Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks have made little progress in their contract extension talks, with a deal before the start of training camp considered unlikely.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the discussions have nevertheless remained “cordial.” Towns is eligible for an extension that could reach $276 million over four seasons. “This is a cloud going into training camp,” Charania said. Towns has a $61 million player option for the 2027-28 season and could become a free agent in 2027.

There is no deadline for an extension, while James Dolan wants to avoid entering the second apron.
