Alex Caruso says he was close to signing in Europe after going undrafted

He said he talked to a Canadian coach who was on a German team (probably Gordon Herbert of the Fraport Skyliners)

Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso joined JJ Redick’s podcast and revealed that he was close to signing in Europe after going undrafted in 2016.

“After I got undrafted, I played my first Summer League with the 76ers. So they had Ben, TJ McConnell, and me as the point guards so I didn’t really play much. When I did play, I didn’t play very well. After that happened, I went like a week span where I was talking to my agent and trying to figure out where I was going to go. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you there was a lot of disappointment when I was thinking about going to play overseas. I thought I was going to play in Poland, Germany. I actually talked to a German team’s head coach who was Canadian (maybe Gordon Herbert who coached the Fraport Skyliners at that time).”

But then, Caruso got a call from the OKC Thunder who invited him to training camp. He then played in the G League his rookie year before signing with the Lakers.
