Anthony Davis explains why he asked the Lakers for another center, saying he felt too heavy after bulking up to battle Embiid and Jokic

Anthony Davis explained why he asked the Lakers to add another center during his time in Los Angeles. The request was also tied to the physical work he was doing to handle matchups with Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic.

“The strength training I was doing was because I knew I was playing center, going against Joel Embiid and Jokic,” Davis said. “I had always played around 250, but that year I got to 265, probably 268. I didn’t like it.”

Davis added: “I was like, ‘I can’t play like this. I feel heavy.’ I tried to cut during the season, but it was tough while playing. That’s when I went to the team and said, ‘I want another big.’ It just didn’t happen.”
