Strasbourg has announced that Ainars Gailitis is the new head coach of its first team. The 40-year-old Latvian coach signed a two-year contract with the French club.
Last season, Gailitis led Mitteldeutscher to its best season ever, winning the German Cup and its first top-flight title after eliminating Bayern Munich in the semifinals and Bamberg in the finals. Since 2021, Gailitis has also been an assistant coach to Luca Banchi in Latvia.
Gailitis said: “It is a privilege, and I am honored to join SIG Strasbourg, one of the best organizations in France. The challenge ahead of us is motivating because we must overcome many challenges to prove that our desire, enthusiasm, passion, and values can make the club one of the best in France. We will do our best to build a competitive team that plays according to our values, and whose players are eager to represent Strasbourg to the best of their ability and show fans the best possible image of their team.”
