The Memphis Grizzlies have officially promoted Tuomas Iisalo to head coach, per Shams Charania. After taking over as interim in late March, Iisalo now enters the record books as the first Finnish-born head coach in NBA history.
A former player in Finland with a 14-year professional career, Iisalo made his mark in Europe as a coach. He won the EuroCup and was named EuroCup Coach of the Year in 2024 before joining the Grizzlies staff.
This appointment underscores Memphis’ trust in Iisalo’s international experience and tactical leadership, as they aim to return to contention under his guidance.
