Tokyo to host the 2030 FIBA Women’s World Cup, France awarded the 2031 Basketball World Cup

The 2030 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup will be played in Tokyo, Japan, while the 2031 FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in France, across Paris, Lille and Lyon

FIBA has made two major hosting decisions for its flagship national-team events. The 2030 Women’s Basketball World Cup will be staged in Tokyo, while the 2031 FIBA Basketball World Cup has been awarded to France, with games set to be played in Paris, Lille and Lyon. The men’s tournament is scheduled from August 29 to September 14, 2031.

On the women’s side, Tokyo’s selection fits into the new calendar approved by FIBA, which moved future editions of the Women’s Basketball World Cup to the November-December window starting in 2030. FIBA had already confirmed that the 2030 edition would be held in that period.

France’s appointment further underlines the country’s growing role in global basketball hosting. According to FIBA’s official communication on its social channels, Paris, Lille and Lyon will share hosting duties for the 2031 tournament, bringing the Basketball World Cup back to Europe.
