The second salary threshold could soon force Oklahoma City to make difficult decisions regarding its core, with Chet Holmgren potentially becoming one of the players at the center of those discussions.
According to Zach Harper of The Athletic, the Thunder could be forced to make changes if they continue to struggle to keep their star trio together under the league’s increasingly restrictive salary rules. In that scenario, Holmgren’s performances against Victor Wembanyama could also become a key factor.
If Oklahoma City’s big man continues to struggle against Wembanyama in the biggest games, the Thunder could begin to seriously consider moving him, particularly given the financial restrictions imposed by the second salary threshold.
