Thomas Heurtel held a fiery press conference at a Barcelona hotel, where, alongside his agent David Carro, he detailed the breakdown of the agreement with Barça.
“The family reserves the right to take appropriate legal action; the case is already in the hands of lawyers,” stated Carro. “You can’t work like this. If a given word means nothing, then we’re playing a completely different game. You paid for a flight, a hotel, chose a jersey number, and assured us there would be no issues…”
The player himself added: “Yes, obviously they made a fool of me. First, they left me in Istanbul, but this time it’s worse: I moved my kids and my wife to come here. It’s an enormous lack of respect. I was very excited to come here; it was an opportunity for both sides. I thought I could help a struggling Barça this year. I wanted to relaunch my career at a great club like Barça.”
The decision to cancel the transfer was made by club president Joan Laporta, following numerous criticisms expressed by Barça fans on social media after Mundo Deportivo reported the news.
The operation was officially called off this morning after a meeting in Paris involving Josep Cubells, the executive in charge of the basketball division, sporting director Mario Fernández, and coach Joan Peñarroya.
According to Carro, the main person responsible for the chaos is Josep Cubells:
“I can’t say it was Joan Laporta. For me, the one responsible is Josep Cubells because if you tell me you represent the president, then you are the responsible party. If you don’t have the authority to make decisions, don’t take responsibility for others.”
