Bogdan Bogdanovic (right ankle sprain) has progressed his activities to include individual on-court workouts. He will be listed as out for tonight’s game vs. Houston and his status will be updated as appropriate.

Knicks, Lakers, Wolves, Blazers, Kings, Pacers, Cavs pursuing Ben Simmons

At least seven teams are interested in Ben Simmons.

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers are pursuing the All-Star guard.

Per The Athletic, It is unclear, however, how much traction the 76ers have on a potential trade. The 76ers are currently asking teams for an All-Star-caliber player and/or multiple first-round draft picks for Simmons.
Simmons has yet to play for the 76ers this season as he’s expressed the sentiment that he’s not mentally ready to rejoin the team.

Isaiah Thomas signs in G League, will play in Showcase

Isaiah Thomas has signed in the G League and will participate in the Showcase between December 19-22 in Las Vegas.

Thomas continues to seek a return to the NBA.

Thomas worked out for the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors during the offseason. Thomas played briefly for the New Orleans Pelicans last season.

Philadelphia’s trade conversations on Ben Simmons gathering momentum in recent days

The 76ers are trying to shop Ben Simmons and in the recent days the trade conversations have gathered momentum.

Per ESPN (via RealGM): The 76ers have sought a top-25 player in exchange for Simmons and have discussed two-team and three-team scenarios.

The possibility of a trade opens up on December 15th when players that signed offseason deals become eligible for inclusion in a deal.

While Damian Lillard has been a target of interest to the 76ers, the Portland Trial Blazers have made it clear that he is not available.

Steve Kerr to become the new USA Basketball head coach

Steve Kerr will become the next USA Basketball head coach.

Kerr will replace Gregg Popovich in the World Cup and 2024 Paris Olympics.

Grant Hill chose Monty Williams, Erik Spoelstra and Mark Few in his staff.

Bulls to sign Alfonzo McKinnie

The Chicago Bulls have reached an agreement with Alfonzo McKinnie.
The player was in G League averaging 24.1ppg.
McKinnie will be signed by the Bulls through hardship exemption.

Blazers’ CJ McCollum diagnosed with pneumothorax

Upon further examination, a CT scan revealed that Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum has a pneumothorax (right lung), the team announced today.

McCollum sustained the injury during the 4th quarter of Portland’s game versus Boston on December 4.

He will be further evaluated before a prognosis is determined and his status will be updated accordingly.

McCollum did not travel with the team for Wednesday’s game at Golden State.

In 24 games this season (all starts), McCollum has averaged 20.6 points (42.4% FG, 39.3% 3-PT, 70.0% FT), 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.08 steals and 35.3 minutes.

Heat’s Jimmy Butler aggravated tailbone injury

Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat aggravated his tailbone injury in loss to Grizzlies.

Per ESPN, Butler favored his back after a hard fall on a missed driving layup early in the first quarter. He scored just 10 points on 13 shots before heading to the locker room midway through the third quarter. He did not return.
“He drew contact and got shoved and landed on his tailbone again,’’ Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said after the game. “There could not have been a worst scenario for us to start the game. It is a contact sport. It’s an unpredictable thing. Insult to injury, we didn’t get the call on that either.
“But he definitely re-aggravated it. You can tell from that point on he was not his usual self. So we’ll reevaluate him [Tuesday] and see where we are.’’

Davon Reed joins Denver Nuggets on 10-day deal

The Denver Nuggets have announced the arrival of Davon Reed with a 10-day contract.

Reed has played seven games this season for the Grand Rapids Gold (Nuggets-affiliated G League team), averaging 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.14 steals.

Bucks Sign Wesley Matthews, Waive Georgios Kalaitzakis

The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agent swingman Wesley Matthews. In a related transaction the Bucks have requested waivers on rookie guard Georgios Kalaitzakis.

A 6-5 guard, Matthews averaged 4.8 points and 1.6 rebounds in 19.5 minutes over 58 games (10 starts) for the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

Kalaitzakis was the 60th overall pick of the last NBA Draft.

Dante Exum reportedly close to join Barcellona

Dante Exum is close to sign a three-month contract with Barcellona, Chema de Lucas reports.

The Australian point guard spent 7 seasons in the NBA but failed to show his full potential due to several injuries.

Exum had re-signed with the Houston Rockets in September, but the Texan team decided to cut him during training camp.

 

Exum produced averages of 9 points (56% FG, 78% FT) and 2.8 assists in 6 games at the Tokyo Olympics.

Rockets haven’t seriously discussed buyout with John Wall

A buyout between John Wall and the Houston Rockets “hasn’t been seriously discussed by either side as a possibility”, reports David Aldridge of The Athletic

Wall is due $44 million this season and $47 million next season. For a buyout to make sense for the Rockets, Wall would have to give back even more money than Kemba Walker did with the Oklahoma City Thunder

Lakers’ Trevor Ariza “still a ways away” from returning

Trevor Ariza has yet to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers in his second go-around with the team, but he’s inching towards a return. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said that Ariza is “getting closer”, but is “still a ways away” from playing in games.

Ariza underwent surgery on his right ankle shortly before training camp began. His timeline for re-evaluation was set at eight weeks. Vogel said Ariza remains on track with that timeline and the team hopes to “have more firm update” after the re-evaluation.
