The Houston Rockets could become one of the biggest storylines of the upcoming NBA offseason. In a new piece for The Ringer, Michael Pina wrote that if Houston decides to act aggressively, the franchise could look at top-tier names such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, with Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns and Darius Garland also mentioned in that broader conversation.
The meaning of the report is straightforward: Houston still has valuable assets and may choose to speed up its timeline, especially if this postseason is viewed as proof that the current core is not yet enough to seriously contend. Among the ideas surrounding the Rockets is the possibility of moving one of their major young pieces in exchange for a proven superstar.
Still, this should be read as a landscape of possibilities rather than a sign that talks are already underway. One more note: Darius Garland, one of the names listed by Pina, is no longer in Cleveland. The Washington Post reported in February that he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. That makes the report more of a snapshot of the caliber of player Houston may chase this summer than a fixed list of active targets.
