Portugal delivered a statement road win in Athens, beating Greece 71-56 in Group B of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers. The visitors led for more than 37 minutes, finishing ahead in every quarter and building their victory on defense, rebounding and balanced execution.

The key moment came in the second quarter: after Elijah Mitrou-Long tied the game at 21-21, Diogo Brito answered with a fast-break layup to put Portugal back in front. From that point on, Portugal never looked back, extending the lead after halftime and going up by as many as 20 points early in the fourth quarter.

Brito was the standout performer with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block, finishing with a 21 efficiency rating. Travante Williams added 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Rafael Lisboa contributed 16 points and 5 assists. Greece were led by Elijah Mitrou-Long, who finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists on a tough offensive night for the hosts. FIBA’s Group B standings showed a wide-open race, with Greece and Montenegro at 3-2 and Portugal and Romania at 2-3 before the full round update was completed.
