Marcus Smart was introduced as the newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers, signing a two-year, $11 million contract after a buyout with the Wizards. “Luka called me and said he needed my help — that meant a lot,” Smart said.
The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year replaces Finney-Smith as a key perimeter defender. With 108 playoff games, he brings experience to a Lakers squad led by JJ Redick and LeBron James.
“I’m very motivated. The last two seasons were disappointing due to injuries, but I believe everything happens for a reason. Now I’m here — full circle,” said Smart, who was nearly drafted by L.A. in 2014.
