Léo Westermann joins Movistar Estudiantes
Movistar Estudiantes has announced the signing of Léo Westermann for the next two months. The French point guard, born in 1992 and standing 1.98m, arrives to reinforce the team following the temporary absence of Fernando Zurbriggen.
Léo Westermann brings EuroLeague experience
Westermann brings extensive experience at the highest level of European basketball. Throughout his career, he has played for several of the continent’s major clubs and competed in the EuroLeague.
He began his professional career with ASVEL before moving to Partizan Belgrade. He later played for Zalgiris Kaunas, CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce, FC Barcelona and AS Monaco.
Léo Westermann knows Spanish basketball
The French point guard is already familiar with Spanish basketball. During his career, he has played for FC Barcelona, Monbus Obradoiro and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada.
Last season, Westermann helped Monbus Obradoiro earn promotion to the ACB, appearing in 35 games and averaging 10.3 points, 4.8 assists and 11.6 PIR per game.
Sporting director Íñigo de la Villa explains the signing
Movistar Estudiantes sporting director Íñigo de la Villa explained that Westermann’s arrival is designed to maintain the team’s competitiveness during Zurbriggen’s absence.
“Fernando’s situation forces us to adapt and look for a solution that allows us to maintain the team’s level of competitiveness during his absence.”
De la Villa also highlighted Westermann’s experience and ability to read the game:
“He is a player with a top-level career and experience, who knows European basketball perfectly and can give us direction, game reading, size and a lot of competitive experience from day one.”
Westermann will stay with Estudiantes for two months
The Spanish club considers the signing a temporary solution while Fernando Zurbriggen completes his recovery.
Westermann will therefore provide experience and stability at point guard during the next two months.
