LeBron James said he no longer intends to pursue being part of an ownership group for a potential NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas. After scoring 30 in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 124-116 win over the Houston Rockets, James was clear: “No, I’m not. Not at all.”
It’s a shift from prior public comments, including a 2022 statement in which he said he wanted a team in Vegas. With a vote scheduled at next week’s Board of Governors meeting to move forward with the bidding process for franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle, James said he does not plan to be involved.
Per Shams Charania’s reporting, industry executives expect proposals in the $7B to $10B range for each expansion franchise. LeBron’s stance removes one of the most high-profile names previously linked to a Vegas ownership narrative.
