The FIBA Europe Board voted to award FIBA EuroBasket 2025 to Latvia, Cyprus and Finland at the host announcement ceremony for the 42nd edition of Europe’s showcase event in Munich on Tuesday.

Latvia will host the Final Phase of the competition as well as one of the groups in the Group Phase. Cyprus and Finland will each play host to one group in the Group Phase.

FIΒΑ Europe President Turgay Demirel chaired the session of the Board, with FIBA President Hamane Niang, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis and FIBA Executive Director Europe/FIBA Europe Secretary General Kamil Novak also in attendance.

The event was also attended by dignitaries from the candidate hosts who traveled to Munich to support the bids of their respective countries.

FIBA EuroBasket 2025 is set to take place in September of that year with the exact dates to be announced at a later stage.

The national teams that will compete for glory in the big event will emerge from a qualification process. Its preliminary stage, the Pre-Qualifiers, commenced in November 2021 and is underway.

Prior to the host announcement the FIBA Europe Board discussed the current situation in Ukraine and how the war affects sport and especially basketball.

After taking into consideration the extremely difficult circumstances and the huge challenges that the country is facing, and as an act of solidarity to the Federation of Ukraine, the Board has decided to continue exclusive discussions with Ukraine for the hosting of the fourth group of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 until November 2022.

At the same time, FIBA Europe will work on an alternative back-up plan.
