22-year-old Valencia Basket point guard Jean Montero is enjoying a standout season, highlighted by winning the EuroLeague Rising Star award and earning a spot in the All-EuroLeague First Team.
The Dominican guard touched on several topics in a long and interesting interview with Diario AS, including his potential move to the NBA:
“If I get a real opportunity — meaning a chance to actually play — I think I would accept. But only in that case. At the end of the season, regardless of what happens, I know I’ll discuss it with the team and my representatives. But here in Valencia I’m happy and always trying to give my best.”
Valencia will battle for a spot in the EuroLeague Final Four in a playoff series against a tough opponent, Panathinaikos, led by Ergin Ataman and stars like Kendrick Nunn and Nigel Hayes-Davis.
“They’re a team like any other. In this competition, anyone can beat anyone… The upcoming EuroLeague games will be the most important of the season, and our fans must give everything, just like we will. From the first minute, they need to support us, and we’ll give 100%.”
Head coach Pedro Martínez’s team is on the verge of a historic achievement:
“We talk about it in the locker room — these are goals we believe are possible. We have to win this game, then the next, and then the next. If we do things the right way, we can reach the Final Four. We don’t see it as a distant goal, but as a process made of steps, one after another. We can take it step by step — everyone’s goal is to reach the Final Four.”
