Just like in the 2022 quarterfinals, Poland once again took down Slovenia, this time in front of a sold-out home crowd in Katowice. In their Group D opener, the Poles earned a 105-95 win, spoiling Luka Doncic’s debut at EuroBasket 2025.
Despite Doncic’s impressive stat line — 34 points, 9 assists, 5 steals — Poland had the answers. Jordan Loyd exploded for 32 points on 7/8 from three, the second-highest scoring performance in EuroBasket history for Poland. Mateusz Ponitka added 23 points, and Andrzej Pluta chipped in 15.
Slovenia briefly led in the second quarter, but Poland responded with a dominant 15-3 run to open the second half, capitalizing on technical fouls to Doncic and the bench. Slovenia never recovered, despite 17 points from Edo Muric and 15 from Gregor Horvat.
