Former NBA player Corsley Edwards spoke for MeridianSportBH about his interesting career, which took him all over the world. Edwards also played in the ABA league for two seasons, where he represented Cedevita and Igokea.
During his time in Laktaši, Igokea finished the ABA league regular season at the top of the standings. Even to this day, Edwards believes they deserved to qualify for the Euroleague: “We had a great team. Milan Dozet, Branko Jorović, everyone was great. Coach Dragan Bajić is very relaxed and he reminds me of American coaches. I could felt the energy that he was transferring onto his players, he is fantastic at his job. We were winning and I was expecting to get some good offers. I am mad because, in the end, we were deceived. We were first and we should have played in the Euroleague. With Cliff Hammonds, we were even thinking about signing a new deal, but then they informed us that the rules were changed. They changed them in favor of some other team.”
After his playing career, Edwards joined Denver Nuggets as an assistant coach focused on players’ development. From that time, he has also shared an anecdote about late Kobe Bryant, against whom he played in the high school: “Kobe is one the smartest and intelligent people you could ever meet. His last triple-double was against the Nuggets when I was there. We were standing in the tunnel, talking about the time when we had played against each other in high school. Imagine that, he was at the end of the career, but he still remembered details from high school, like the one when I fouled him very hard and did not let him get off. He said that he learned a lot from me, and that left me speechless. I could not believe it, I thought he was joking. But that was his mentality. We were very alike because we would do everything to win.”
