The Bayern basketball team continues to strengthen its German rotation: the German champion and cup winner has signed power forward Kevin Yebo. The 28-year-old Rhinelander signed for three seasons until the summer of 2027. The 2.07-meter tall, agile player in the paint is considered a rising star in German basketball over the past two years. During this time, he played for Chemnitz and recently celebrated winning the Europe Cup there. His contract had expired.
“I want to bring my energy to Munich. The fans and my teammates should see that I always give my all and that there is someone who loves basketball,” says Yebo, who completed his medical checks on Thursday.
Kevin Yebo is already looking forward to the upcoming EuroLeague debut with excitement: “I’m not surprised that I’ve made it here, to the double winner and champion. Because if you have talent, love what you do, and always give your all, you can achieve your goals. I have great respect for this new challenge, but no fear, and I’m curious about what awaits our team.”
Late Bloomer with Rapid Development
Kevin Yebo developed late and then very rapidly into one of the most effective and dynamic German players. He began playing the world’s best indoor sport in his home region of Bonn at the age of 16, and just three years ago, he was still proving himself in the second league.
“Kevin is an absolute role model for what you can achieve when you believe in yourself and persevere with hard work,” says FCBB CEO Marko Pesic. “His path was not easy, and what he has accomplished in the last two years, especially last season, commands great respect. We are happy that he chose us despite numerous offers. Kevin is a very versatile offensive player with many tools, but above all, his fighting spirit and attitude are ideal qualities that fit perfectly with our team for next season. As a versatile power forward, he will give us a lot of flexibility in both competitions.”
In the 2017/2018 season, Yebo first proved himself in the ProA with Team Ehingen Urspring. In his second year, he established himself as the best German ProA scorer and an impressive rebounder (15.5 points per game, 9.8 rebounds per game), earning his BBL debut: the then-newcomer Hamburg signed him in 2019, but his breakthrough came after another two-year ProA stint (in Bremerhaven) starting in 2022 in Chemnitz.
Breakthrough in Two Years at Chemnitz
At the Niners, Yebo was crucial to the team’s steady rise: In his first BBL season, including playoffs, he averaged 12.8 points with a 70.5 percent field goal percentage and 5.5 rebounds. Last season, as Chemnitz reached the semifinals for the first time, he averaged 15.7 points and five rebounds per game.
In the Europe Cup, Chemnitz and Yebo (10 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game) celebrated the greatest success in the club’s history with the final triumph. Yebo had also shown his abilities in this competition the previous year (10.1 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game).
Yebo’s parents still live in Bonn. He is the father of a two-year-old son.
