AS Monaco’s attempt to save its 2026-27 season has ended with another major setback. The French Basketball Federation (FFBB) has rejected the club’s application to compete in the NM1, France’s third-tier division.
The decision comes after a chaotic summer that saw Monaco stripped of its Betclic Élite status due to severe financial difficulties. The Management Control Commission had issued an unfavorable recommendation, noting that the club was unable to provide sufficient documentation proving the accuracy and reliability of its financial situation.
The FFBB therefore determined that there were not enough guarantees to justify an exceptional exemption. The NM1 championship will start as scheduled on September 18. Monaco now faces the possibility of shutting down its operations or, alternatively, competing with an amateur team in the fifth-tier NM3.
