Anthony Edwards is officially out of the running for NBA postseason awards. The Minnesota Timberwolves ruled him out against the Detroit Pistons, and with only six regular-season games left, he can no longer reach the 65-game threshold required for honors such as MVP and All-NBA.
Minnesota listed right knee injury and illness on the report, but after the 113-108 loss, coach Chris Finch said the illness was what kept Edwards out. The four-time All-Star had just returned against Dallas after missing six games because of his knee issue.
It is still a major statistical season for Edwards, who is averaging a career-high 29.3 points per game, but he will not be eligible for the league’s main individual awards. The setback also ends another possible run in the MVP conversation after two straight seventh-place finishes in voting.
