During the Milwaukee Bucks’ media day, Giannis Antetokounmpo spoke about the past summer and his physical condition, which last year did not allow him to be present during the playoffs.
Before tackling the 2024-25 season, he took a final moment to reminisce about the Olympics with the Greek national team: “It was one of the greatest experiences I had as a basketball player: that and the [NBA 2021] title. It was one of the most incredible experiences to be in Paris, especially to participate in the opening ceremony as my country’s flag bearer. Paris was the most diverse place on Earth at that time. I hope I can participate again. It was one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had, whether I won or lost”, he added.
Speaking of his physique and what he expects from next season, Antetokounmpo will do everything to stay healthy and try to be there when it counts, after, in addition to last year, his absence during the 2023 playoffs had also affected his Bucks’ premature exit in the first round.
“I will take care of my body as best I can”, he said, ”There will be unfortunate moments. I didn’t expect on April 9 to hurt my calf. There will be moments like that, things you don’t expect. But you just have to be ready as best you can, take care of your body and try different things. That’s what I did this offseason. At the end of the day, I have to understand that it is very important to stay healthy because it gives you a chance to be performing, to help your team and to win. When you are not available, the chances are reduced to zero. I don’t want to talk too much. I’m just taking care of my body the best way I can. I hope not to be unlucky in the future,” Antetokounmpo added.
