A’ja Wilson, one of the biggest stars in the WNBA, will remain with the reigning champions Las Vegas Aces after agreeing to a three-year “supermax” deal worth about $4.7 million, the Athletic reports.
This marks the richest contract in league history.
Last month, the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association reached a new collective bargaining agreement, unprecedented in women’s sports.
For the first time, a revenue-sharing model has been introduced, with players set to receive around 20% of league revenue over the course of the deal.
The league projects to distribute over $1 billion in total salaries and benefits across the seven-year agreement. The salary cap will increase annually based on league and team revenues, with projections indicating it could surpass $10–11 million by 2032.
