Blake Griffin has raised concerns about the scale of the youth sports industry in the United States, saying it generates roughly $40 billion in annual revenue. The former NBA All-Star compared that figure to the NFL’s revenue. “Forty billion dollars is almost twice the revenue of the NFL,” Griffin said. “Youth sports is generating more money than the pros off of kids that most likely will never go pro.”
Griffin also criticized the growing role of private equity firms in youth sports, arguing that families are being left with fewer alternatives.
“For parents, there’s nowhere else to go because private equity firms are buying up all the places kids play,” he added.
