Ergin Ataman has reacted to the latest developments in the scandal shaking Greek basketball, saying he is following the situation with shock. The former Panathinaikos head coach, however, declined to comment further on a case that is still before the courts.
“I am in Athens and I am following all the developments with shock, but I’m sorry, it would not be right for me to express an opinion on an issue that is currently before the courts,” Ataman told ANT1.
He also expressed his support for Panathinaikos: “Panathinaikos is a very big club and will take whatever action is necessary regarding this matter. I would like to send my love and greetings to all Panathinaikos fans and to the true friends of sport.” Meanwhile, Vangelis Liolios has stepped away from all basketball-related activities until the legal proceedings against him are concluded. The Greek Basketball Federation has since elected Angelos Papanikolaou as its new president.
