Real Madrid will meet with the NBA in London on Tuesday, October 27, to discuss the project for a new European league. According to information obtained by Sportando, of the EuroLeague clubs mentioned in British media reports, only Real Madrid will attend the meeting, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich will not participate.

The meeting is part of a series of discussions reportedly scheduled by the NBA, according to Sky Sports, taking advantage of the presence of executives from major clubs in the British capital for the Ballon d’Or ceremony. Initial reports did not clarify whether the talks would take place in person or remotely.

SPORT had already ruled out Barcelona’s participation, reaffirming the club’s commitment to the EuroLeague. According to the Catalan newspaper, Barça, Olympiacos and Olimpia Milano were among the main opponents of the NBA’s reported proposal of approximately €520 million in total to acquire the EuroLeague, an offer considered insufficient by the majority of clubs.

SPORT also reported that each team would be required to pay more than €400 million to join the new competition. For Barcelona, the financial concerns would be compounded by the loss of the control it currently exercises as a EuroLeague shareholder.

Real Madrid’s position is different. According to The Guardian, as reported by SPORT, Florentino Pérez remains strongly interested in the project and hopes to see it launched as soon as possible.
