AS Monaco has reportedly expressed interest in joining the ABA League for the 2026-27 season. According to Sport Klub, the club is prepared to pay €500,000 for a special wild card.
The move remains difficult to complete. Current regulations limit the league to 20 teams, the draw has already taken place and Monaco’s admission would require one division to play two additional games. The proposal could nevertheless be discussed at the league assembly reportedly scheduled for September 4.
Monaco is looking for an alternative following its exclusion from France’s professional competitions, a decision that also places its EuroCup participation in doubt. Joining the ABA League could help the club retain its European berth but would likely reduce Bosna Sarajevo’s chances of receiving a EuroCup invitation. Entry into ABA 2 is also being considered as a possible solution.
