Adam Silver moved to calm speculation around the future of the Memphis Grizzlies. As reported by ESPN, the NBA commissioner said the league is committed to Memphis and added that owner Robert Pera has no interest in relocating the franchise.
At the same time, Silver floated a broader idea: having the Grizzlies play a few games each season in Nashville in an effort to become more fully Tennessee’s team. ESPN also noted that Memphis has held training camp in Nashville over the last two years, but the team has never played regular-season games there.
The discussion also ties into the arena situation. The Grizzlies’ lease at FedExForum runs through 2029, and talks about an extension and renovations are ongoing. A City of Memphis planning document references combined state funding for upgrades to FedExForum and Liberty Stadium as part of a broader sports-infrastructure push.
