Baskonia has already started negotiations to extend Kobi Simmons, at a time when Trent Forrest’s continuity with the club appears increasingly unlikely. The point guard is out of contract and, after his strong season, his market value has reportedly risen enough to attract interest from several major EuroLeague teams.
In that context, the Basque club has decided to move quickly on Simmons, who was originally signed because of Forrest’s injury and with Markus Howard also sidelined. His performances have been considered solid, and Baskonia believes that with more experience in European basketball and better adaptation to Paolo Galbiati’s system, he could deliver even more.
In the EuroLeague, Simmons is averaging 11 points and 3 assists per game. Three-point shooting remains the weakest part of his statistical profile at 29%, while his numbers inside the arc (63%) and from the free throw line (92%) have been excellent. He will turn 29 in July.
