It was not a quiet Sunday for Evan Fournier. During the Greek League Round 21 match between Olympiacos and Panionios, the French star was at the center of an incident that stunned the Glyfada arena, leading to his early exit.
The incident occurred in the second quarter, with the “Reds” leading 28-21 on the road. Following a brief but heated verbal exchange, Fournier reacted vehemently to a provocation from a fan sitting in the front row. The French guard moved aggressively toward the man, forcing his teammates to intervene immediately to prevent the situation from escalating further.
In particular, it was Thomas Walkup who stepped in as the peacemaker, pulling his teammate away and attempting to restore calm in the suddenly tense atmosphere.
Fournier was, naturally, ejected immediately. Meanwhile, the fan involved in the altercation was also removed from the arena by security.
Despite the forced absence of one of their star players, Olympiacos managed to keep their composure, securing a 79-71 victory on Panionios’ home court.
It now remains to be seen whether the Greek sporting judge will take a hard line against the former NBA player regarding upcoming matches.
