Israel cruise in Limassol, Cyprus never find an answer

A wire-to-wire road win at Spyros Kyprianou Arena, with the margin growing every quarter

Israel won 83-54 at Cyprus in Group E of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Qualifiers: top scorers Idan Zalmanson 13, Roman Sorkin 13 and Adam Ariel 13, while Filippos Tigkas 15 led Cyprus. The visitors led from start to finish, never trailing for a single second.

There was no major swing: Israel set the tone immediately with a 24-12 first quarter and kept extending the gap. Cyprus had a brief second-quarter spark — a quick 6-0 burst from 27-15 to 27-21 on threes by Ioannis Giannaras and Simon Michail — but couldn’t sustain it.

Israel’s knockout punch came in the third with a 9-0 run from 57-38 to 66-38. Zalmanson went 5-for-5 from two with 8 rebounds, Sorkin posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Ariel shot 5-for-6 overall with 3-for-3 from deep, as the lead peaked at 81-49 with 1:24 left.
