EuroLeague to adopt conference format if expanded to 24 teams

EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas announced that a conference format will be introduced if expansion goes beyond 20 teams.
“The round robin doesn’t work above 20,” he said during a remote press conference.

The league is considering a move to 24 teams, ensuring that “Every game matters” remains the core philosophy.
All teams would still face each other, avoiding random draws or uneven matchups.

Motiejunas emphasized alignment with FIBA and domestic calendars.
“We want growth, but not at the expense of the basketball ecosystem,” he concluded.
