È morto all’età di 86 anni Don Nelson, una delle figure più importanti e innovative nella storia della NBA. La notizia della scomparsa dell’ex allenatore è stata confermata dalla sua famiglia.
Nelson ha avuto una lunga carriera sia da giocatore che da allenatore. Da giocatore ha conquistato cinque titoli NBA con i Boston Celtics, mentre in panchina ha guidato, tra le altre, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks e Dallas Mavericks.
Con 1.335 vittorie in regular season, Nelson è il secondo allenatore più vincente nella storia della NBA, dietro Gregg Popovich. Ha inoltre conquistato per tre volte il premio di Coach of the Year ed è stato inserito nella Basketball Hall of Fame nel 2012.
Tra i momenti più celebri della sua carriera da allenatore c’è la storica cavalcata dei Golden State Warriors nei playoff 2007 , quando l’ottava testa di serie eliminò al primo turno i Dallas Mavericks, primi classificati a Ovest dopo una stagione da 67 vittorie.
